Aspects of Writing Reflected in Students’ Essay Writing, Influential Factors and Learning Strategies in Improving Writing Skills at SMKN 1 Gowa

This study aims to analyze the aspects of writing reflected in students’ essay
writing, to describe the influential factors faced by eleventh grade students
majoring in tourism services business at SMK Negeri 1 Gowa and learning
strategies to overcome the influential factors of writing in English. Data
collected through writing test and interviews using descriptive qualitative
phenomenological approach to identify what are the aspects of writing, the
influential factors and learning strategies by students. The results of the study
reveal several interesting findings. Firstly, the influential factors there are five
points, namely: age factor, psychological factor, personality factor,
sociocultural factor and linguistic factor each factor has an influence on the
challenges faced by students, in the age factor this factor focuses on how age
affects the cognitive ability of students in writing, psychological factor focuses
on student thinking, personality factor is from the individuals, the
sociocultural factor is the factor where they are and how the environment
affects students ' writing skills and the last factor is linguistic where this factor
focuses on the things or aspects that produce writing. Secondly, the learning
strategies divided into two points, namely, direct strategies and indirect
strategies. Direct strategy is a strategy that individuals do directly to overcome
the challenges faced in learning, while indirect strategy is a strategy that
supports the learning process as a whole but it is not directly to do but there
is a process that is preceded before. The researcher highlighted that the factors
can come from internal or from within the individual and come from the
outside or external environment, in addition to overcoming these factors
students can take it by taking action or having a strategy to overcome and can
achieve the goals they want to achieve.
