The Ecocriticism in Picture Book Saving the Countryside: The Story of Beatrix Potter and Peter Rabbit by Linda Marshall (2020)

Environmental issues are an important topic nowadays because humans can't treat
nature properly. There is pollution everywhere, and it can lead to interrupt humans,
animals, and other living creatures. Children's literature has a big role in raising
awareness about the environment because children are vulnerable to their surroundings.
This study used qualitative method and aims to analyze how the main character treats
nature in the picture book "Saving the Countryside: The Story of Beatrix Potter and
Peter Rabbit".This study applies ecocriticism theory to analyze, explicitly using Greg
Garrard's theory and focusing on the ecocriticism aspects The results of this study show
that from six aspects of ecocriticism there are five aspects that found in this picture
book, such as pollution, animals, wilderness, dwelling, and the earth. The main
character, as a human, has an important role and connection to treating nature. This
study is expected to influence the reader to take minimal action to prevent
environmental damage.
