: Bad Language Among Mobile Legends Players In The N2 Community
This study aims to analyze the use of bad language in the N2 Mobile Legends
community by identifying the types of bad language used, its pragmatic
functions, and its impact on player communication. Using a qualitative
descriptive method, data was collected through interviews with six active
players of the N2 community and direct observations of in-game interactions.
The findings reveal that bad language is commonly used in various situations,
such as moments of defeat, teammate mistakes, and provocation from
opponents. Pragmatically, the use of bad language serves multiple functions,
including emotional expression (swearing), dominance assertion (Harsh
Language), and humor among players. Additionally, bad language can
strengthen social bonding among teammates when used in a humorous or
playful manner. However, excessive use of bad language can contribute to a
toxic gaming environment and negatively impact player psychology and team
communication. Compared to previous studies, this research highlights the
linguistic dynamics within the N2 Mobile Legends community, offering
insights through a pragmatic analysis. Despite its contributions, this study is
limited by a small sample size and a focus on short-term effects. Future
research should expand the participant pool and explore the long-term
consequences of bad language usage in online gaming communities.
