The Hero Journey of Mufasa in Film The Lion King 2024

This thesis analyzes heroic journey in the film Mufasa: The Lion King (2024).
Theoretically, this study focuses on applying Christopher Vogler's “The Hero's
Journey” framework, which is an adaptation of Joseph Campbell's monomyth,
to describe Mufasa's character transformation from an orphan to a wise king.
The object of this study is the narrative structure and character development
of Mufasa in the CGI live-action film. The methodology used is descriptive
qualitative analysis with a narratological approach, specifically utilizing
Ge ́rard Genette's concepts to examine the construction of the story. The main
findings of the study prove that Mufasa's journey carefully follows the twelve
stages of Vogler's monomyth. The conclusion of the study shows that this film
uses the universal monomyth structure not only as a plot framework, but as a
powerful vehicle to explore character development based on spirituality,
thereby bridging narrative theory with ethical values.
