Representation of Women Power inThe Novel “The Power” By Naomi Alderman

This research examines how Naomi Alderman’s The Power portrays
women’s power through its main characters as a modern narrative that reflects
shifting gender dynamics. Using a qualitative descriptive approach and Stuart
Hall’s theory of representation, the study explores how language, symbols, and
narrative construct images of women’s power. The findings reveal that each
female character represents different forms of power: Roxy embodies physical
strength and resistance to patriarchy, Margot reflects political authority and
ambition, while Allie (Mother Eve) symbolizes spiritual and ideological influence.
However, these powers also reproduce new forms of domination, showing that
women’s power is shaped by culture, experience, and social context. The novel
ultimately challenges patriarchal structures while exposing the dual nature of
power as both liberating and oppressive. Thus, this study highlights literature as
an ideological space for rethinking gender relations and redefining women’s roles
in society.
