Adab and Humanities Title : Reader's Response Toward the Hyperbole in Online News Headline

The main objective of this research is discussing about the reader response toward the Hyperbole in online news headline. This research aims to find how the reader's response toward the hyperbole in online news headline to the student from seventh semester of English and Literature Department, Adab and Humanities Faculty, State Islamic University of Alauddin Makassar. This research focuscd Hall's theory (1974) about possible opposition of reception. In analyzing the data, this research is primarily using descriptive analysis method. As the result, this research shows that there are three possible positions, the dominant position of hegemony, negotiation, and opposition. There is one respondent that has dominant position of hegemony, and nine respondents that have the position of the opposition.
