Author's Worldview in Abdulrazak Gurnah's Afterlives.
This research is aimed at revealing the author”s worldview found in the novel. The object of the research is the novel Ajferlives by Abdulrazak Gurnah. The researcher uses the Genetic Structuralism theory to analyze the intrinsic or structural elements and the social aspects of the novel to show the author's worldview. The result of this research shows that first, the intrinsic elements consist of major and minor themes, plot, character, and setting. Major theme in the novel is colonialism while minor themes are history, violence, romance, and family. The main characters are Khalifa, Ilyas, Hamza, and Afiya. The plot in the novel is a forward plot. The setting of novel takes place on Swalihi coast which now is part of Tanzania, Africa some years before World War I until several years of post-World War I. Second, there is a homology connection between the historical background of the novel and the social condition of the author. Gurnah's worldviews are (1) Humanism, as he shows eguality and essential dignity of African individuals through the character in the novel. (2) Anti-colonialism. as he Indicates his disagreement with the colonial regime over African people. (3) giosity as he reveals in some characters' rituals in the novel.
