Racism In Angie Thomas “The Hate U Give”
Racism as it was presented in Angie Thomas' Novel, The Hate U Give, is the topic of this thesis. The purpose of this thesis was to discuss how The Hate U Give depicts racism against the black race. In order to analyze the issues, the researcher employed racism using Dovidio et all theory (2010) and traits connected to racism, such as stereotype, prejudice, and discrimination. The researcher employed the gualitative descriptive approach to complete the analysis. The researcher's data are words, phrases, and clauses that use Angie Thomas' book as the source and discuss aspects of racism. The results demonstrated that there were twenty three data found in characteristics of racism including stereotype, prejudice, and discrimination in The Hate U Give novel based on the characters of the black race that were discriminated against, including Starr Carter, Khalil, and The Black Society. Also, the most dominant characteristics of racism that was experienced by the black race characters in this novel was discrimination that consist of nine datas because the white race is often prejudiced against the black race in this novel, and the minority groups had been under pressured since they receive unfair treatment in society.
