Spirituality in Novel “Bird Summons” By Laila Abuolela

The aims of research is to describe Elkins' concept of spirituality that exists in three female characters in Laila Abuolela's novel Bird Summons. This research is a gualitative research with a literary structuralism approach. The data used in this research are monologues, dialogues and narratives related to concept of the spirituality of the characters in the novel. The data source in this research is a novel entitled Bird Summons by Laila Abuolela. Data collection was carried out by reading the novel under study in depth and repeatedly identifying recording relevant data and classifying and interpreting data. The results show there are nine aspect of spirituality namely transcendent dimension, meaning and purpose of life, mission of life, sacredness of life, material values, altruism, idealism, awareness of tragic, and fruit of spirituality. The results also show that wisdom is born when people become aware of their spiritual side. This has a lot in common with completeness. Wisdom manifests this completeness in one's deeds, speech, and interactions with others. They always take into account and work to improve human intellect and heart, which is how perfection is attained. The results of this study is expected to be a means for society to understand spirituality, especially those conveyed in novels, to be applied in everyday life so that they can explore Spirituality within themselves and become better individuals
