The Plot of Unhappiness and Happiness in the Movie “Run” Represented Freud
This research examines the plot that motivates the unhappiness and happiness of the characters in the movie "Run". This study uses Freud”s pleasure and pain concept that motivates and inspires people to move forward or to avoid the movement. Using gualitative research data by examining the events in the plot that construct the character's state of being happy or unhappy in the movie, this research shows that the movement of the events in the story is significantly influenced by the intention of the character to pleasure, and their objection to the pain. For these intentions and objections, the event is arranged that constructs the movement of the story. The results of this research imply that the happiness of the mother, Diane, is found outside herself, namely living with her daughter, Chloe. On the other hand, Chloe would be happy if she didn't live with her mother. The two main characters believe that their happiness can be achieved by achieving their own goals to avoid pain. Besides, Diane's unhappiness is when she loses or is away from Chloe, while Chloe's unhappiness is when she sees her mother do something bad and live with her. Actually, the unhappiness between Diane and Chloe is conflicting, as one of them wants to live together and the other wants to leave. Belief in pleasure and pain significantly influences the character of the decisions that drive the course of their lives. Pain and pleasure generate a moving plot. Plot movement can help people find pleasure and avoid the pain that occurs in film stories. The research concluded that the two main characters try to lose their unhappiness and find happiness in order to achieve their goals in life.
