Deixis in Searching Movie (A Pragmatic Analysis)

This study focuses on deixis that appeared in the movie Searching, which aims to analyse the types of deixis and describe the deixis usage. This study used gualitative approach using the theory of types of deixis and deixis usage based on Stephen C. Levinson's perspective. The data was taken from the movie Searching using notetaking technigue as the research instrument to get valid data. The researcher found that there are five types of deixis in this movie. They are person deixis as the most dominant occurs, time deixis as the second, social deixis as the third, discourse deixis as the fourth, and place deixis as the least deixis occurs in the movie. In using the deixis, the selected character Rosemary Vick mostly used symbolic usage, and then gestural usage. Keywords: Kinds of Deixis, Deixis Usage, Levinson Theory, Searching Movie
