ECOLOGICAL AWARENESS OF CLIMATE CHANGE IN BARBARA KINGSOLVER’S FLIGHT BEHAVIOR

This research discussed Ecological awareness of Climate Change in
Barbara Kingsolver’s Flight Behavior which aimed to find out the act of
Dellarobia, the main character, as an indication of ecological awareness. This
research used Aldo Leopold’s theory of Ecological Awareness with descriptive
qualitative method and note-taking as an instrument. This research was conducted
in order to enhance and enrich the knowledge of the readers about the importance
of ecological awareness in facing climate change nowadays. The findings showed
that with Dellarobia’s awareness she fulfilled 4 of 7 acts of the action indicators of
ecological awareness. The researcher concluded that ecological awareness as
proposed by Aldo Leopold depicted in Dellarobia’s action was observing the
natural resource condition, maintaining plant and animal populations, recognizing
the dynamic nature, and creating partnerships. From those actions, Dellarobia was
able to show and spread ecological awareness within the family in particular and
in rural society in general as a form of preventing natural hazards due to climate
change.
