This research focuses on the narrative structure that appeared in the novel
The Body by Stephen King through Vladimir Propp‟s narrative structure
perspective. This research applied qualitative method with the aims of describing
the narrative functions and spheres of actions found in the novel and why the
others are absent. The result shows that there are eleven from thirty-one narrative
functions founded in the novel and they are: absentation, villainy, beginning
counteraction, the first function of the donor, provision on a magical agent,
departure, guidance, struggle, the hero‟s reaction, return, and victory, the other
twenty narrative functions were absent due to the absent of princess, false hero,
and the dispatcher spheres of actions. It also shows there are four from seven
spheres of actions founded in the novel: villain, hero, donor, and helper, the other
three spheres of actions were absent for the reason that they were usually only
found in folktales. The conclusion is only eleven narrative functions and four of
spheres of actions can be found in the novel.
