EXPRESSIVE SPEECH ACT IN THE MOVIE SCRIPT OF BRIDGERTON
This research aimed to find out the types of expressive speech acts in the
movie script of Bridgerton. This research applied a descriptive qualitative method.
The researcher used note-taking as an instrument to find out data about expressive
speech acts in the movie script Bridgerton. The object of this research is the
Bridgerton movie. The data was collected by watching movies and reading the
script to get information about the speech act used by all the characters in movie
Bridgerton. The data of this research are all utterances spoken by all characters in
the movie Bridgerton which contain expressive speech acts. The data were
classified according to the type of expressive speech acts according to Searle’s
theory. Based on the data, The results showed that there were six types of expressive
speech acts, such as expressive for thanking 2 data, expressive for apologizing 7
data, expressive congratulation 2 data, expressive greeting 6 data, expression of
wishing 2 data, and attitude expression 3 data. Expressive to apologize is more
frequently used by all characters.
