REPRESENTATION OF FEMINISM IN THE FILM BOMBSHELL 2019 BY JAY ROACH

This research discusses the Representation of Feminism in the Film Bombshell
2019 by Jay Roach. This movie is about a woman who tries to keep her job and fight her
boss who abuses power to oppress the women by making rules that make women feel
uncomfortable. The aims of this study are to find out the feminist issue raised in the film
Bombshell by Jay Roach. This research used descriptive qualitative method using feminism
theory issued which analyzes the male domination, gender inequality, women
subordination, and women's movement. Beside it also used Robert Stanton character
analysis theory to classify the data into 4 forms; according to the characters words,
characters behavior, conversations between characters, and characters actions. In collecting
the data, the data taken from character analysis by using the script to retrieve dialogue from
the scene that was deemed appropriate to the theory. The result of this thesis indicates that
the three female characters in Bombshell film show that they experience oppression from
men. Women are often oppressed because they are often considered weak and easy to
influence. At first they couldn't refuse because they didn't want to lose their jobs. But over
time they were already very uncomfortable with the rules and treatment carried out by their
boss. Then they started to speak up and reported to stop all the unfair things being done to
women. Finally, after all of women sued, the bos fired from the office.
