CIRCUMLOCUTION IN POLITICAL NEWS WRITTEN IN JAKARTAPOST

This research discusses circumlocution and semantic change in the Jakarta
Post.com. The objectives of the research focused on two points are identifying the
types and semantic change in The Jakarta Post. This study uses descriptive
qualitative method. The data are analyzed Types of circumlocution based on
Barras‘s theory (1982). The instrument of the research is the researcher himself.
The result of this study found that there are 6 types circumlocutions used
in the political news in Jakarta post. They general over specific, paraphrase over
name, complex over simple, ambiguity, equivocation, and euphemism. And there
are 4 types of semantic change. They are specialization, generalization, metonymy,
metaphor.
