DEATH-LOSS AS SEEN IN COCO MOVIE: DECONSTRUCTION ANALYSIS
This thesis discusses the death and loss phenomenon portrayed in an
animated movie, Coco. Coco animated movie which released on November 2017,
tells a story about two worlds: the world of living and the world of death or also
known as the land of the living and the land of the dead which fused into one due
to the action of a Mexican boy name Miguel Rivera, the great-great-grandson of
Coco. This thesis aims to deconstruct death and loss phenomenon portrayed in
Coco movie. This research used descriptive qualitative method in revealing the
data. In analyzing the data the researcher used deconstruction theory by Jacques
Derrida. As the result of this study, the researcher found that death and loss are
two things clearly portrayed in Coco movie. However, the researcher found death
and loss in general is sorrowful become pleasant or joyful by using deconstruction
theory.
