DECONSTRUCTION OF CONFLICT IN THE NIGHTINGALE (2018) MOVIE IN TERM OF THE WAR BETWEEN ENGLAND AND IRELAND
This study discusses the concept of deconstruction in the movie entitled
the nightingale. This study aims to find the hidden meaning in the movie's text by
determining the minor texts in the movie's story and then giving them meaning
that will delay the main meaning of the movie. The researcher used descriptive
qualitative method in analyzing the data. This method places the researcher as the
main instrument of research. To find minor texts in the story, the researcher first
analyzes the concept of representation to relate it to history which is most likely to
be related to every events in the movie. With this method, the researcher found
that the major meaning in the movie is the meaning that refers to the conflict that
occurs between two nations, namely between England and Ireland. Using the
concept of deconstruction from Jacques Derrida, the researcher concludes that the
hidden meaning in the movie is the meaning that is related to other characters in
the story who come from Indigenous Australians. Everything experienced by
these minor characters is able to deconstruct the main plot of the movie about the
conflict between England and Ireland. So it can be concluded that the real
meaning that the writer wants to convey is about the suffering experienced by the
indigenous Australians during the British colonial period which placed prisoners
in several colonies in Australia.
