THE PORTRAYAL OF WOMEN AGAINST PATRIARCHY IN ABI DARE’S THE GIRL WITH THE LOUDING VOICE
This research discusses patriarchy towards women and women's freedom
from patriarchy in Abi Dare's The Girl with the Louding Voice. This research
analyzes how women get their freedom from patriarchy such as subordination,
exploitation, and oppression by becoming independent women. The object of this
research is a novel by Abi Dare entitled The Girl with the Louding Voice (2020).
This research used a qualitative descriptive method and theory of independent
women by Simone de Beauvoir. According to Simone de Beauvoir, theory of
independent women can be divided into three categories, they are independent
women and work; independent women and freedom; and independent adventure.
The result of this research showed that subordination, exploitation, and
oppression of women were found in the novel. Besides, women against such
patriarchy had to struggle to achieve their freedom by becoming independent
women were also found in the novel.
