CODE MIXING USED BY ANNOUNCERS OF VENUS RADIO FM MAKASSAR

This study is a research about Code Mixing Used by Announcers of Venus
Radio FM Makassar. The objectives of the research are (1) to describe the types
of code mixing used by announcers of Venus Radio FM; (2) to describe the reason
of announcer of Venus Radio FM to use code mixing; and (3) to describe the
function of code mixing used by announcer of Venus Radio FM.
The method used in this research is descriptive method. The writer used
purposive sampling. The data were analyzed in two stages, classifying the data
that content code mixing used by announcers in program and analyzing the data
used some theories. To analyze the types of code mixing and the reason of code
mixing used Hoffman’s theory. To analyze the function of code mixing used
Holmes’s theory.
The findings of this research showed that the types of code mixing that
they usually used when presenting the program are sentential and lexical code
mixing, the reason of them used code mixing in broadcasting that is talking about
a particular topic, quoting somebody else and stylish and used familiar word. The
function of code mixing that usually used by them that is topic and attitudes to
code mixing.
Based on the findings above, the writer concluded that the types of code
mixing there are sentential and lexical code mixing. The reason used code mixing
are particular topic, quoting and stylish. The function of code mixing that is topic
and attitudes to code mixing.

The implication of this study is to tell people that by knowing the code
mixing, we can understand when mix language in speaking not just doing without
knowing the name of it. Besides, this thesis can stimulate the students of English
and Literature Department to learn more about code mixing.
