ANALYSIS OF MYTHS IN COLLEEN HOUCK’S NOVEL “TIGER’S CURSE”
This thesis is a research about Analysis of Myth in Colleen Houck’s Novel “Tiger’s Curse”. Problem statement of this research are (1) what kinds of myth found in the Novel “Tiger’s Curse” by Colleen Houck and (2) what the meaning of each myth found in the novel “Tiger’s Curse” by Colleen Houck. The objective of this research are to find out kinds and the meaning of each myth found in the Novel Tiger’s Curse by Colleen Houck. This research is sociological approach
Myths are narratives of sacred nature, often connected with some ritual. Myths are often foundational or key narratives associated with religions. Novel is a great variety of writing that have in common only the attribute of being extended works of fiction written in prose.
In this research, the writer used the descriptive qualitative method in analyzing data. The source of data is Colleen Houck’s Novel “Tiger’s Curse”, which published in 2011 and the books reference to support this research. The writer used note taking in collecting data source as her instrument. The writer used Lincoln Bruce’s theory who divides myths into four kinds.
The result of this research is the writer found there are 18 data. The conclusion of this research, the writer found that there are four kinds of myths. They are rational myth, structural myth, functional myth and psychological myth. The writer also found the meaning of each myth in Colleen Houck’s Novel “Tiger’s Curse”
The implication of this research is to give information to readers who want to increase their knowledge about myth especially kinds of myth. Hopefully, this research can be a reference for other writers about myth.
