SOCIAL CRITICISM IN THE SONG OF MAHER ZAIN “PALESTINE WILL BE FREE”
This thesis is about Social Criticism in the song of Maher Zain “Palestine will
be free” by using Lucien Goldmann theory, the genetic structuralism approach was
used also in analyzing this song. The purpose of this research is to find out (1) the
kinds of social criticism in the song Palestine will be free, (2) the relation between
social criticism in the song and social background of the composer. The writer
conducted the research by using descriptive qualitative method. The source of the
data in this research was the song of Maher Zain Palestine will be free which was
released in 2009. The data were analyzed by using the theory of genetic structuralism
by Lucien Goldmann.
The result of this research showed that the song of Maher Zain described
about the condition of Palestine. The findings of this research, the writer found some
social criticism in the song based on the real life such as; homicide, resistance,
injustice issue, aggression and defense. The structural elements (intrinsic element) are
theme, sound, figure of speech, and rhyme. And finally by studying the event and the
composer’s background (extrinsic element), and the relation between social criticism
in the song and social background of Maher Zain as the composer. Based on the
findings, the writer concluded that can be shown about social criticism that; (1) he
feel the atmosphere, he made a song for Palestine become one of the supports to
convey love message and peace to Palestine. (2) He became the volunteer
