Analysis of Cinderella Complex of the characters in Little Women (2019)
This research discussed about Cinderella Complex of the characters in
Little Women (2019). This research focused on finding Cinderella Complex
aspecst and factors showed by the characters in Little Women (2019). The data
were analyzed using descriptive qualitative method. The theory that used in this
research was theory of Cinderella Complex by Colette Dowling (1981). The main
instrument of the research is Note-Taking. The findings showed that the female
characters showed aspect of Cinderella complex including Rely on men,
Expecting others direction, Passive on making decision, Fear of losing of
femininity, and Low self-esteem. For the factors of Cinderella complex, there
were Parenting style, Personal maturity, Self-concept, and Providing excessive
help. From the Six female characters, there were five female characters that shows
the Cinderella complex aspect and factors. They were Amy, Meg, Aunt March,
Jo, and Bet. Amy showed a lot of Rely on men aspects where the factor is mostly
because of parenting style. Meg showed a lot of Fear of losing femininity aspects
where the factor is mostly because of self-concept; Aunt March in the movie
mostly act as the factor of Cinderella complex, the parenting style; Jo showed a
lot of Rely on men which caused by personal emotional maturity; And Beth
showed only low self-esteem because of her personal psychological maturity. The
character who was not showing any Cinderella Complex aspects and factors was
the character Marmee, because she was depicted as the most independent and wise
female character in the movie of Little Women. The novelty of this research is that
the research was thorough compared to the previous research, where Cinderella
complex was only analyzed in generam while this research was not ony about
Cinderella Complex, but also the Aspects and Factors of Cinderella Complex.
