ANALYSIS OF POLITENESS STRATEGIES USED BY CHARLIE ROSE AND JACK MA IN THE “ENGLISH SPEECH” SHOW

This study was focused on types of Politeness Strategies and the function of
strategy used by Charlie Rose and Jack Ma in English Speech Talk Show. The
results of this research showed there were three politeness strategies used by the
speakers in this English Speech Talk Show: They were positive politeness as many
19 utterances, negative politeness as many 14 utterances and off-record as many 3
utterances. The objective research to find to find out the types of politeness and to
find out the function of politeness strategies used by Charlied Rose and Jack Ma in
the “English Speech” talk show program. The researcher use the method
descriptive qualitative. This research shows more use of positive politeness with
the necessitates thinking about how speakers structure what they wish to say based
on who they are speaking to and the context in which they are speaking.
