THE NARRATIVE STRUCTURE IN THE NOVEL “MOTHER” BY MAXIM GORKY
In this study, Seymour Chatman's opinion on the Mother novel's narrative
structure was addressed. The purpose of this work is to use Seymour Chatman
theory to characterize logical occurrences utilizing kernels and satellites as story
elements in storytelling. The descriptive qualitative approach was employed to
study the data, and the narrative theory was applied to describe the logical events
in Maxim Gorky's novel with entitled Mother. The data collection technique used
is note taking. The findings showed that were 5 kernels and 15 satellites. The 5
kernels were: the death, reading, working and involve in demonstration, move to
the town, and followed by a spy. The researcher concluded the logical events in
the novel Mother can be seen that the order of causality or the existence of a
causal relationship.
