RELIGIOUS RADICALISM ISSUES IN THE NOVEL “THE POETRY OF SECRETS” BY CAMBRIA GORDON (A STUDY OF DYNAMIC STRUCTURALISM)
This study focused on Religious Radicalism using Dynamic Structuralism to
find signs of radicalism by correlating the intrinsic and extrinsic elements
novel―The Poetry of Secrets by Cambria Gordon. The objective of this study is to
describe the external factor influence the element of structural in the novel ― The
Poetry of Secrets by Cambria Gordon, historical fiction novel, set in the Spanish
Inquisition in 1481.
This study uses descriptive qualitative method. The data are analysed based
on Religious Radicalism Yusuf Al- Qardhawi theory. The result of this study shows
five signs of religious radicalism that occur in literary work especially in the novel
The Poetry of Secrets, namely intolerance, fanatic, passionate, prejudice, and violence,
experienced by the Jews during the Spanish inquisitionunder the reign of king
Ferdinand and queen Isabella in the novel. Besides that it can be concluded that
religious radicalism occurs not because of wrong religious teachings but because of
