AN ANALYSIS OF SOCIAL SEMIOTIC IN MAHMOUD DARWISH’S “STATE OF SIEGE”

This research aims to explore the social semiotic by using poetic function
related to Halliday‘s theory of the poetry by Mahmoud Darwish ―A State of
Siege‖. The data were analyzed using a qualitative descriptive method. The
instrument of this research was the researcher himself to get the data. The findings
show that ― State of Siege‖ by Mahmoud Darwish by took some piece are
including in Social Semiotic by MAK. Halliday. Unemployement, Foolishness,
Siege/War, Racial Differences,and Conflict.
