The Ideational Metafunction on The Political Debate of US President Election 2020
This research focuses on the types of ideational metafunction of language and the usage on The Political Debate of US President Election 2020 are the focus of this research. The research objective of this study are describing types of ideational metafunction and its usage. Descriptive gualitative method is used in this study. The data is analyzed by using ideational metafunction of Michael Halliday, an England linguist. The result shows that the six processes in ideational metafunction found in political debate of US president 2020 which are material processes for explaining and conveying fact, mental processes for saying expectation, verbal processes for describing willingness or forbidding action, relational processes for connecting verb and situation, behavioral processes for explaining the habit of behaver, existential processes is explaining the existence of entity. Relational processes is the most widely used type, as in systemic functional linguistics which explains situational and cultural contexts and the existential processes are the process that is rarely used in debates because they include general knowledge that is known by all of participants.
