Students” Response Toward Contextual Meaning in Adele's Song Lyrics
This research is focused on students” response toward contextual meaning in Adele's song lyrics. The objective of this research is to find out the students' response toward contextual meaning in Adele's song based on Lyons (1977) theory about contextual meaning. The methodology used in this research is descriptive gualitative method. The result of data analysis is there are 7 students who gave responses towards conveyed in Adele's song lyrics. The researcher identified and divided the result of the student's interpretation into 3 sub-points such as there are 2 students who are able to interpret the contextual meaning accordance to the context. 4 students who interpreted the contextual meaning out of context. 3 students who were only identify the contextual meaning. The researcher found there are two reasons or problems about the students do not understand the contextual meaning. The first reasons was students hard to find out the actual meaning and the second was lacking of knowledge and background knowledge.
