The Relationship Between Human and Animal in Jack London's Novel The Call of The Wild
Humans have a responsibility to take care of nature and the creatures that inhabit the planet. This includes maintaining biodiversity, reducing negative impacts on the environment, supporting animal protection, and living sustainably. Through understanding and applying these principles, humans can contribute to the preservation of nature and live a more balanced relationship with the natural surroundings. This research focuses on the relationship between human and animal in Jack London's novel The Call of The Wild. This study aims to find out how the relationships between humans and animals in novel The Call of The Wild. This research uses gualitative method to analyze the data. This research was conducted based on Ecocriticism Theory. The result shows that the relationship between humans and animals was depicted forms of empathy, care, solidarity, respect, and moral responsibility. Some characters provide rare examples of humans treating animals with kindness and understanding, which shows the potential for a more harmonious relationship. Besides that, there is a negative side between humans and animals in this novel, humans in this novel often exploit, torture, and view animals only as commodities, which highlights the darker aspects of human-animal relationships. It is concluded that nature and animals must be protected, must be respected than destroyed, and animals and wildlife must cohabit. We must learn to appreciate nature”s beauty and converse the ecosystem so that animals and nature can live peacefully and happily.
