Swear Words Used in 22 Jump Street Movie

The purpose of this study was to identify the categories of swear words and the ways in which the main characters in 22 Jump Street movie employed them. This study looked at the word choice, phrase structure, and sentence construction of the main characters in 22 Jump Street movie. In order to obtain reliable data for this study, the researcher used note-taking as a research tool. The movie demonstrated that the main characters used four different types of swear words, they are, expletives, abusive, humorous, and auxiliary swear words. Additionally, this study revealed that there are five distinct ways that the main characters used swear words, they are, descriptively, idiomatically, abusively, emphatically, and cathartically. The researcher found expletive swear words is a dominant types that used in this movie and how swear words used the main characters dominant used cathartically in this movie.
