The Influence Of Motivation Toward Students' Ability In Grammatical Structure Of The Third Semesters' Students Of English Literature Departement
Motivation has an important role in learning the language. As Harmer (2001) states that, the success or failure of someone in learning English depends on their motivation levels. This research is aimed to analyze motivation affect the students” ability in grammatical structure and which motivation influence students” ability. The objectives of the research is to identify effect of motivation toward students” ability in grammatical structure and to describe which motivation influence students” ability. The researcher uses Gardner & Lambert's theory for analyze the motivation and likert scale to find out the scale of the students” motivation and used long man toefl test to find out the score of grammatical test. The result of the research revealed the student's motivation in learning English had instrumental motivation and its category is intermediate. From 50 students, total score of motivation was 2984 and total item of guestionnaire was 15. Thus, the average about 59.68. the researcher also found the students result had intermediate category. from 50 students, total score was 3499 and total item of test was 20. Thus, the mean was 69.98. The researcher used regression analysis to test the hypothesis and the researcher found that the signicance value (Sig.) 0.000 is smaller than « probability 0,05, so it can be oncluced that HO was rejected and Ha was accepted. The researcher concluded that there is influence between students” motivation and students” ability on grammatical structure. The students got 78” integrative motivation and got 82”0 instrumental motivation that means student got more instrumentally motivated than instrumentally motivated.
