Representation of Historical Events in Valkyrie Movie by Bryan Singer
This research explored the representation of historical events in the “Valkyrie” movie by Bryan Singer. This research analyzed the historiographic metafiction traits that appeared in the movie by applied postmodernism theory by Linda Hutcheon. This research used gualitative descriptive method to examine how the movie represents historical events, constructs narratives, and engages with postmodernism elements. The findings reveal that the historiographic metafiction traits in the movie are appeared in form of non-stereotypical characters and tbe particular way to present the historical information. The research also finds that there is another trait of historiographic metafiction which is the self-reflective of its own fictiveness. However, Valkyrie avoids mockery and critigues authentic historiography, focusing on plot tension and suspense, excluding self-consciousness or parodic subversion typical of hustoriographic metafiction. Thus research concludes that Valkyrie is a truelife drama that blends historical realism with narrative elements. The film delves into the characters' psychological states while focusing on the larger story of events, conflicts, risks, and plot progression.
