The Difficult Factors in Speaking at PPM Rahmatul Asri Senior High chool
Speaking is a subject matter that must be learned by the students because it is the most important factor in the development of English language skills. However, it is more difficult than another subject because there are some difficulties experienced by students in speaking, such as the environment, the curriculum, teaching strategy, and many others factors that cause of speaking difficulties. This study aims to analyze the factors of students” speaking difficulty at PPM Rahmatul Asri Senior High School by using the theory of factor internal and external in speaking by Nadzirotunnuha (2007). Additionally, this is a gualitative study in which the researcher employed semi-structured interviews to gain data from 20 of 2”'-grade level students and 2 English teachers. The data gained were analyzed and schematized into two types of categories. Firstly, the researcher found the difficulties with seven categories. The results of this study found that the difficulties the students faced in speaking were lack of confidence, fear of making mistakes, feeling shy, hesitation, lack of vocabulary, low motivation, and lack of parents attention.
