Direct Violence in an American Adaptation Script Movie The Babysitter
Direct violence is one of the types of violence which refers to a condition when somebody is intentionally violated by a perpetrator, either physically or psychologically. Moreover, this research aimed at analyzing the characterization as well as the direct violence within an American adaptation script movie, "The Babysitter." The researcher applied the characterization theory by Minderop and Galtung's violence theory. Besides, the researcher elaborated on the results of this research by utilizing a descriptive gualitative method. As the results, the researcher figured out that there are five characters were involved in the issue of direct violence, either as perpetrators or victims. Those five characters are Jennifer, Jack, Mark, Dolly Tucker, and Mr. Tucker. Meanwhille, the researcher also found several issues regarding direct violence that existed within "The Babysitter" movie script. These include beating, attempted rape, and hot water sprinkling, where all of them are categorized as physical violence. Additionally, other forms of direct violence include body shaming and deception, which are classified as psychological violence. Lastly, the researcher discovered that the way the characters are depicted in the movie script has significant points of why some parties commit violence and why some others become victims.
