Audience Response Toward Gender Issue in The Documentary Film “He Named Me Malala”
In nowadays gender issues are important conversations in society because they illustrate the inegualities, stereotypes and discrimination that individuals still experience based on their gender identity. This research seeks to explore the audience's response to the gender issues portrayed in the documentary 'He Named Me Malala'. The film recounts Malala's inspiring journey in advocating for women's education rights amidst the challenges posed by the Taliban. This study involved six respondents, consisting of two men and four women. The main objective was to find out the diverse audience responses and explain the factors that influenced their perspectives. Using a gualitative descriptive methodology, the analysis involved observing individual viewpoints alongside Focus Group Discussion (FGD) sessions and in-depth interviews with the movie viewers. The findings underscore the stark differences in how men and women view the gender issues portrayed in the movie. The rcscarcher concludcd that rcspondents showed a positive rcsponsc to thc handling of gender issues in the movie. Viewers also highlighted Malala Yousafzai's courage as the protagonist and the message of female empowerment presented in the film's narrative. In addition, the interviews conducted revealed three important factors that influence the audience's perspective: family influence, educational background, and personal experience.
