An Analysis Of Diction In Amanda Gorman's Selected Poem
This research aimns to find out how ss the diction used by Amanda Gorman in her selected poems, namety "At First", "Fugue" and "School's out” by usmg Abrams' (1999) theory in analyzing the types of diction. There are four types of diction according to Abrams, namely concrete, abstract, denotation and connotation but in this research only focus on denotation and connotation. The method used in this research is descriptive gualitattve method. In this study found denotation and connotation diction presented in fifty-eight (58) data from three poems. The result of this research shows that Amanda Gorman uses more denotation diction in her three poems. Based on the data, it can be concluded that Amanda Gorman used denotative diction to make it easier for readers to understand and explore the situation that the author is experiencing during the pandemic.
