The portrayal of female detective in the movie Enola Holmes 2022 and male detective in the movie Sherlock Holmes 2009: A Comparative Study

This research discusses the portrayal of the female detective Enola in the movie Enola Holmes 2022 and also the male detective Sherlock in the movie Sherlock Holmes 2009. This research analyzes the character of detective and the form of public acceptance of two detectives of different genders and living in the Victorian era. This research uses a comparative approach by Zepetnek (1998) and the feminist theory of Shakespeare's Sister by Virginia Woolf (1929). This research was gualitative descriptive research that using note-taking instruments for data collection. In this research the researcher compared 2 detectives who acted as the main characters of each movie. The researcher compared the characters and forms of public acceptance from the data found by the researcher from each movie. The results of the research show that there are differences between the character of the female detective Enola in the movie Enola Holmes 2022 and also the male detective Sherlock in the movie Sherlock Holmes 2009 presented by the author, the form of public acceptance of the figures of the two detectives is also different, the environment and culture in the Victorian era were very strong of patriarchy, so there are differences between the way society views and treats women and men, especially in the work environment.
