THE USE OF ENGLISH SLANG BY ADULT'S TWEETS IN SOCIAL MEDIA TWITTER

This study aims to classify the types of slang that used by adult's tweets or in social media Twitter, and to find out the functions of slang that used by adult's tweets in social media Twitter. This study used Allan and Burridge's theory to classify types and to find out this functions, which there 5 types of slang such fresh and creative types, flippant types, imitative types, crony types, and clipping types, and there are 7 functions of slang such as to address function, to humiliate function, to relax conversation function, to form intimate atmosphere function, to express impression function, to express anger, and to show intimacy function. This study used descriptive gualitative method. The results of this study found 39 tweets classified into 13 data fresh and creative and flippant types, 4 data imitative types, 18 data acronym types, and 4 data clipping types. Meanwhile, for the slang function, there are 16 data to initiate relax conversation function, 3 data to express anger function, 15 data to show intimacy function, 5 data to express impression function. There is no data found by researcher in to address function, to humiliate function, and to form intimate atmosphere function.
