The Use of Jargon by English Learning Community Accounts on Social Media Instagram
This research aimed to discuss the forms and functions of jargon in English learning community accounts on social media Instagram. This research was based on two theories, Halligan's theory (2004) regarding the forms of jargon and Geoffery Leech's theory (1981) discussed about the function of language. The researcher used observation sheets as an instrument to obtain data from three English learning accounts, namely Cambridge, Global English, and LC. The findings showed that these accounts contained four forms of jargon, they were acronym, abbreviation, words, and phrase. The language functions in each context were informative, expressive, directive, and phatic. Based on research findings, phrase was the form of jargon that appears most freguently in their posts and can be seen as a way for users to communicate efficiently within their online communities. Jargon also has a function based on the context of the sentence it followed. It can serve as a special vocabulary used in an English learning community that allows their community to communicate efficiently and precisely
