English Slang Words Used By Twitter Users On Artist's Tweets

This study aims to classify the types of slang that used by Twitter users on artist's tweets, and to find out the functions of slang that used by Twitter users on artists tweets. This study used Allan and Burridge's theory to classify types of slang and to find out their functions, which there are 5 types of slang such as fresh and creative types, flippant types, imitative types, acronym types, and clipping types, and there are 7 functions of slang such as to address function, to humiliate function, to relax conversation function, to form intimate atmosphere function, to express impression function, to express anger, and to show intimacy function. This study used a descriptive gualitative method. The results of this study found 30 tweets classified into 7 data fresh and creative types, 2 data flippant types, 7 imitative data types, 8 data acronym types, and 6 data clipping types. Meanwhile, for the slang function, there are 1 data to address function, 2 data to humiliate function, 10 data to relax conversation function, 11 data to express impression function, and & data to show intimacy function. There is no data found by researcher on to form intimate atmosphere function and to express anger function.
