Flouting Maxim Used by Characters in Thor: Love and Thunder Movie
Effective communication between speakers and listeners should fulfill the maxims in order to prevent misunderstandings. Practically, the rule of cooperative principle are occasionally flouted that can not only be found in everyday life but in movies as well. This research aims to analyze of types of flouting maxim in Thor Love and Thunder and the reason of using flouting maxim. It was designed descriptive gualitative research. In collecting data, the researcher watched, transcribed dialog, read, identified and classified the data. The technigues used to analyze the data are data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing/verification. The research showed four types of flouting maxim, there were 56 types of flouting maxim found in Thor Love and Thunder movie script, comprises: 17 utterances of flouting maxim of guantity, 14 utterances of flouting maxim of manner, 13 utterances flouting maxim of guality and 12 utterances flouting maxim of relation. The flouting maxim of guantity becomes the most type of flouting maxims performed by characters in which they intend to make the interlocutor understand clearly by giving more or less information. Secondly, the reason of flouting maxim used by the characters in Thor Love and Thunder Movie based Leech (1983) theory. The reason mostly performed by characters was collaborative reason. Then, followed by competitive reason, convivial reason and the last is conflictive reason.
