This research discussed about The meaning of Mantra Tradition of Mappatettong Bola” in Wajo Regency (Riffaterre Semiotic Study). This research aimed to find out how The first heuristic and Hermeneutic reading. The first reader can conclude what the mantra is all about and the second Hermeneutically, this mantra is not only understood at the level of linguistic structure, but it must be seen further the meaning contained in each sign of the language that constructs it. The above mantra actually implies the incantation desire to get help from God. The help referred to in this case is in the form of sustenance and salvation given by God. The contents of this mantra can be understood based on the description of the seguence of words contained in each line. the meaning contained in the three mantra texts of Mappatettong Bola can represent the construction of the social and cultural reality of the Buginese of Wajo community, especially in Lompo Bunne, as well as a cultural identity for that community group. The meaning of this mantra also shows a pattern of belief that develops in society. The Buginese Wajo of community believes in the existence of God (Allah) as the owner of the highest power and the prophet / apostle as his messenger. Apart from that, people also believe in the existence of supernatural powers that act as an intermediary medium for realizing a wish through reciting a certain mantra.
