The Sociolinguistics Study of Jargon Used by The Basketball Community in UIN Alauddin Makassar

This study aims to analyze the form of jargon which also describes the meaning of the terms used by basketball community in UIN Alauddin Makassar. This study used a descriptive gualitative research method. The data were taken from the results of interviews and direct observations in the field. Researchers obtained 30 terms in basketball based on the results of interviews with six basketball players. Based on the form of jargon put forward by Halligan (2004), as the results there are two types of acronyms, one abbreviation, thirteen words and fourteen phrases. Based on the meaning of the jargon used by the basketball team using the theory of John Langshaw Austin (1962). Austin suggests dividing speech acts into three, namely locutionary acts, illocutionary acts, perlocutionary acts with the result of thirteen locutionary acts, six illocuti acis, and eleven perlocutionary acts.
