Presupposition in Novel “The Wonderful Wizard of Oz (2019)' by L Frank Baum

This research discusses the presupposition in novel “The Wonderful Wizard of Oz. The objective of this research is to figure out the presupposition in the novel “The Wonderful Wizard of Oz. This research used gualitative descriptive method by using presupposition theory. The researcher used Yule's theory about presupposition theory to analyze the presupposition in the novel. Based on the classification of six presupposition types according to Yule's theory (1996), the writer found six types of presupposition are used in the novel. The researcher found 1 data of existential presupposition, 14 data of existential and factive presupposition, 17 data of existential and structural presupposition, 3 data of existential and non-factive presupposition, 10 data of existential and counter-factual presupposition, 5 data of existential, factive and structural presupposition, 2 data of existential, factive and counterfactual presupposition, 1 data of existential, factive and lexical presupposition, 2 data of existenial, counter-factual and lexical presupposition and 1 data of existencial and lexical presupposition. In conclusion, presupposition can inform the truth of information containing in utterances of speaker. This thesis implicates to tell people how types of presupposition have become interpretation in the work. In addition, the thesis can stimulate the student of English and Literature to learn about presupposition used in Linguistics.
