English Slang Language Used by Celebgrams in Social Media

This research discussed about slang and aims to find out the type, meaning and function of slang used by 5 celebgrams on social media instagram. The researcher used Allan and Burridge's theory which discussed the types and functions of slang and used slang.net dictionary to find out the meaning of slang. The data were analyzed using descriptive gualitative approach to classify the type, meaning and function of slang. The results showed that there are 97 data that are types and functions of slang. The types of slang are fresh and creative, imitative, acronym, and clipping. Clipping and acronym are the most freguently used data by celebgrams in their posts. The functions of slang are to address, to initiate relax conversation, to form intimate atmosphere, to show intimacy and to express impression.
