This study discussed the striving for superiority in "The Hate U Give"
novel, aiming to analyze the main character's psychological state regarding
the development of individual psychology (the process of Striving for
Superiority) in the literary work. Qualitative methods and descriptive
analysis techniques were used for data revelation, with recording devices
employed to gather reliable information. Several aspects that supported
Starr Carter's efforts to achieve superiority, such as personality type, factors
in the struggle for superiority, and compensation, were identified. The
research results showed that Starr Carter was able to overcome her
inferiority complex, successfully fought against her own weaknesses, and
pursued justice, courageously bearing witness to her friend Khalil's death.
This implied the importance of feeling part of a social community,
emphasizing the development of social interests, and the pursuit of
perfection for everyone in society, not just personal excellence.
