English Literature Students Reception On The Stronger Adaptation Performed By Bret Crain And Cristina Dow In 2008
Reception in literature refers to the way a literary work is received, interpreted, and
responded to by readers, critics, scholars, and the general public. It encompasses the
various ways in which a piece of literature is understood, appreciated, and analyzed,
and it can vary widely based on individual perspectives, cultural contexts, and historical
circumstances. This research discussed the reception of English language and literature
students about the adaptation of The Stronger performed by Bret Crain and Cristina
Dow in 2008. This research based on Jauss's theory of interpretation ( Horizon Of
Expectation) . This research was explained through Qualitative method. The researcher
gathered 10 English language and literature students consisting of 8 women and 2 menwho had watched the drama adaptation of The Stronger before, then each student got a questionerry sheet which became a research instrument containing several questions about their reception of the drama adaptation of The Stronger to get valid data. The findings show that the 10 students have different receptions about the drama adaptation of The Stronger. Based on the different answers from the 10 students, the researcher concluded that the findings prove that every reader or audience of literary works will have different assessment or reception criteria in assessing a literary work.
