Reader’s Experience After Reading Psychological Literary Work
This research discusses readers' experiences after reading
psychological literary work. This research aims to know the personality of
novel readers with novel characters and readers' experiences of novels that
discuss mental illness. This research focused on readers' experience about
mental illness and the stage of readers' personalities and novel characters.
This research uses the Lacanian psychoanalysis theory by Jacques Lacan and
the phenomenology approach. Then, the data were analyzed using the
descriptive qualitative method. The researcher used note-taking, interviews,
and recording devices to obtain valid data. This research was conducted to
show the novel contribution to the reader’s experience, the reader's
personality stage, and knowledge of the novel about mental illness. The results
showed that four reader respondents experienced imagined personality.
Three reader respondents experience symbolic personality, namely: (1) W,
personality always trying, personality easily desperate. (2) A, has a personality
easily anxious. then there is one reader respondent who experiences a real
personality, namely: M, who has a realistic personality. Then the reader's
knowledge of the novel about mental illness is that it can make a valuable
contribution in understanding the complexities and challenges faced by
individuals who experience mental illness. Novels about mental illness can
also help readers provide better insight into the realities individuals face.
