Suspense is presented in every literary work, especially novels, short stories and films. The suspense must be embedded in the plot. Suspense in this film happens many times. This research aims to examine how suspense is presented in "John
Wick 4” movie from the perspective of Hitchcock's narrative rules of suspense. The research focuses on how the narrative rules of suspense are applied in the movie. The theory used in this research is Hitchcock's narrative rules of suspense: vicarious suspense, shared suspense, dual or split suspense, direct suspense, and surprise. Aqualitative-descriptive approach is used to investigate the suspense in "John Wick 4." The results show that the movie employs four of the five narrative rules, meanwhile the direct suspense rules are not found in this movie. The researcher concluded that the use of rules of suspense in the John Wick 4 movie can build
tension, involve the audience emotionally, and develop a deeply psychological connection between the audience and the movie.
